Mini Khan Experience destination 1: Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, US

Mini Khan is very excited to be starting his travels! Although he’s been with me for awhile, he’s been so busy reading books (”still reading Khan,” after all!),

helping me with my Hindi homework, and generally just enjoying his vacation

that we’ve hardly had any time to take pictures. So before he packed up today, he came with me to catch up on some work. He’s such a pal, keeping me company in the office on a summery Saturday afternoon.

But first we stopped by the local Indian grocery store in search of Shashi Kapoor movies. Mini Khan and I were both too shy for him to go into the store, but he did want to pose in front of the sign and give it his seal of approval.

He took a look round my office and deemed it suitably colorful and sparkly

and was really happy to see one of the artifacts I brought back from India last summer.
Mini Khan is pleased to see himself in the museum's collections.
(That really is in one of our artifact collections. If you look carefully, you can see how it’s been numbered on the center of the DVD.)

Then we got down to work. I’m working on an exhibit on predynastic Egypt, and Mini Khan did some research while I worked on label design.

Quite unexpectedly, he popped his head out of the book thinking outside the book
and recommended that the exhibit have a musical number or two. He’s so creative! He also had some ideas about my layout.
Mini Khan: graphic designer!

Since there’s only so much waiting for Photoshop to process 140MB image files that I’m willing to do on a Saturday, so I was happy to be distracted when Mini Khan wanted to have a bit of a gossip.

You would not believe the dirt he’s got on…well, he’ll tell you himself when he comes to visit.

No way! So that’s why there aren’t any Khannas in Om Shanti Om!

That Salman. What a train wreck.

I always knew Rani would be fun to hang out with.

Ooooh, maybe she’ll come visit next!

So now he has packed his bags, and on Monday he heads out for Nashville to meet t-hype. If there’s anywhere in the US that can give Bollywood a run for it, aesthetics-wise, surely it’s Nashville? I can’t wait to see what they get up to!

Ha! I just knew he’d be a blast to hang out with. Love these pictures, fun! Also, I’d love to work in a museum that has KKHH as one of its artifacts *g*

  6. Reema says:

Beth, I actually have a Mini Khan all to myself, so I’ll let the rest enjoy this one. My Mini Khan gets bored at my house anyway, he has nothing to do. Thanks for the offer, but I really just enjoy reading what adventures he goes through with all of you. Looking forward to his next stop. ;)

  7. michael says:

  8. kaddele says:

@Reema: You could have MiniKhan over to meet your MiniKhan and have them reenact scenes from the new Don or from Duplicate or something like that :D

  9. Beth says:

Kaddele, that may be one of the best ideas you’ve ever had - no small feat!

  10. Aspi says:

Beth, those last three pictures and text are hilarious. I’m surprised he didn’t spill the beans on the patch up with Bachchan senior already. You’ve been easy on him :)

[…] Friday was a very hot day, so Neera and Mini SRK opted to spend the afternoon at Barton Springs pool. Once again, the paparazzi followed Mini SRK and took a bunch of pictures that landed on the seedy website I mentioned in my previous post and as anticipated, there were all kinds of sordid accusations made by the tabloid reporters. It made me feel bad because Mini SRK didn’t have these problems in Illinois or in Tennessee, so I wondered why he was being stalked by photographers while he was visiting Texas? Well, I finally found out this afternoon, but I am going to keep you all waiting just a little longer as it was such a HUGE surprise! More to come…. […]

Emily - email me at bethlovesbollywood@gmail.com and we’ll see if we can get you into the schedule (though if you’re in North America, it won’t be until much later this fall - he’s on his way to the other hemisphere shortly)
